Description: This grant provides a one-year free trial of our eBook Site License with 55 Sylvan Dell titles, each with auto-flip, auto-read and selectable English and Spanish text and audio. Each school and library can try this for one year only. Accessible from all building computers and on secure school or library websites (where access is controlled through login). Our set-up options are quick, easy, and safe, and can be installed by individual teachers with or without IT support. We give you a desktop icon that can be placed on computers, as well as a 6-digit site code than can be manually entered from our homepage. Schools (not public libraries) are encouraged to send set-up options home with the children so that school families have access from home. This is a free trial with no obligation and when your 365 days of access is over, the site license just expires. We are nice folks and there is no harassment to continue the program.
Eligibility:
* For Public Schools that are not Title I / III: Grants will be awarded to elementary, pre-k, and intermediate schools by school district on a first come, first serve basis, and are open to every school and district in the United States (Non-US schools please email Grant Coordinator). Schools that have already received the grant are not eligible for a second year, but other schools within the district are welcome to apply. One school at a time per district has been our general rule but we have recently relaxed that to accomodate larger districts and are now awarding grants for up to 20% of a district's schools. If a district has reached its limit, we will send a nice regret email back to the school contact and copy the district contact. Schools that applied in the past, but were not awarded the grant, are welcome to re-apply and do not need to fill out the online application again... Just email us or call.
* For Title I and Title III Schools: 2000 grants are awarded annually to Title I/III schools and allocated by state based on a prorated share of Title I Grant Funding to Local Educational Agencies. Within each state, it is first come first serve regardless of school district. Click here to see Title I/III School Grants by State. If you are applying for this Title I/III Grant, please indicate that you are a Title I or III designated school in the last box below entitled: Other Comments (Optional):
* For Private Schools: We allocate 1250 licenses by state on a first come first serve basis prorated by the number of Private Schools in each State.
* For Homeschooling Associations & Support Groups: Grants are available to Associations & Support Groups with memberships of 10 families or greater for the exclusive use of their members. If you are applying for this Homeschooling Resource Grant, please ensure that one of the two contacts required on the application below is the association president or support group lead. Also, please indicate the number of families in your association or support group and your website address (if applicable) in the last box below entitled: Other Comments (Optional):
* For Public Libraries: Grants are available to Public Libraries for the use of their members. Please indicate that you are a public library (if applicable) in the last box below entitled: Other Comments (Optional):
Research Feedback: We want this to be a win-win for everyone involved, and in an effort to improve the process and capture lessons learned, we would appreciate feedback. We ask that, after schools have had a chance to use and assess the license, you and your teachers complete our Grant Awardee Survey Form or just email your thoughts to . Here are some of the things we'd like to know:
- A few examples of how the eBooks and online educational material are being used
- If used from home through the school's secure website, any comments on how that process worked and any feedback from students / parents.
- We would appreciate hearing any recommendations regarding technology, content and/or process.
- We don't want the feedback constrained by questionnaire and ask that you tell us anything else that you think we need to know.
Computer/IT Requirements: All that is needed is broadband internet access. The eBooks will display with Windows or Mac operating systems and do not require special software, plug-ins or eBook reading devices.
Once you submit your application, we will review it and get back to you by email. ***** If you do not receive an email from Sylvan Dell within 2 business days, you should assume there is an email delivery problem with your school's security filters blocking our emails and we ask that you please call us at 877-958-2600 (toll free). Our email is html based and has set-up links embedded but we can resend in text mode or preferably with links to an email address outside the school filters and then you bring it in to your IT folks on a flash drive. This a pervasive issue so we ask that you email or call us to confirm receipt. And to make sure you have what you need, our new policy is to also try call by phone within one week any grantee who has not acknowledged receipt of the email. *****
Please check with your IT folks and make sure that emails from our domain: @sylvandellpublishing.com are on your school's safe sender list.
The email we send will have three set-up options - Opt 1: desktop icon (strongly recommended), Opt 2: your school's unique site code (which no one can remember); and, Opt 3: a url link to your site license. Click here to see (non-functioning) email that is sent: Set-up Options and Instructions
